Requirements: l A three-year Bachelor’s degree in Law, Social Sciences, Criminology or Research Methodology. A postgraduate degree will be an advantage l A demonstrated knowledge of policing research and must have established research networks l A very good understanding of policing practices, and policy development research and strategy development processes l The ability to have wide networks in the policing or security establishment l A demonstrated research publication record and an ability to write research reports and publications l More than five years’ appropriate research and policy management experience l A demonstrated knowledge of Government procurement processes and the PFMA l A valid driver’s licence. Applicants will be subject to undergo security clearance.
Duties: l Manage and co-ordinate all research processes internally in the Secretariat and in SAPS l Provide evidence-based research to the Chief Director and Secretary of Police l Initiate research processes in partnership with SAPS to examine the processes of policing l Design and manage policy development and research process in collaboration with external stakeholders l Keep abreast of international best practice in terms of relevant and updated methodologies and research instruments l Partner with external research organisations to promote the research profile of the Secretariat l Conduct research, analyse findings, provide recommendations and report on policing policy and practice l Ensure that policing strategy and operation are aligned to policy in liaison with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
